Reading Assignment
Students are expected to have their assigned reading completed by the first day of school. For the short stories, students should complete the reading guide questions in preparation for class discussions. The links for the reading guides can be found below.
For The Catcher in the Rye, students are expected to complete thirteen short "Reader Response Journal" entries before the first day of school. Click on the link on the left for "Reading Response Journal" entry directions. During the first two weeks of school, students will participate in small group discussions, participate in a Socratic Seminar, and write an analysis essay about the novel. |

Make a copy of the document to type directly into it or print for handwritten notes. The short story reading guides will not be collected for credit. Completing the comprehensive Catcher reading guide is NOT required but is intended to assist you in your understanding of the novel and should be used to guide the "Reading Response Journal" entires. Bring the reading guides to class on the first day of school to enhance class discussion.
